DAKOTA

Hi my name is Dakota, I was born on Dec. 6, 2000. I was diagnosed at 6 1/2 months of age with Metopic Synostosis. I had a big bump in the middle of my forehead. My mommy noticed it when I was 4 months old. She took me to see Dr. Bower and he sent us to get x-rays my head. When the results came back a few days later, they told my mommy that my metopic suture had fused together to early. On June 19, 01 I had to go to Carson Tahoe Hospital for a CT scan, and I loved that machine! I just held my bottle and watched it spin, and I was awake through it all.

On June 22, 01 I had an appointment with Dr. Edward's in Reno, NV. He told my mommy and daddy that I would have to have surgery and have that bone removed in the middle of my forehead. So my surgery was set for July 13, 01 which happen to be Friday the 13th!

Well, the July 13, 01 was here and we had to be at the hospital at 6:30 am, 3  hours before my surgery. We checked in at ICU and got changed and ready to go  by 9:30 am. I was very hungry but my Mom & Dad took me to the playroom to get my mind off of things. At 9:30 am they came and took me in for my surgery and I was smiling because I had no idea what was going on. At 12:15 pm I was out of surgery and they took me up to ICU and I slept most of that day. Well, July 14th I was really swollen and couldn't see anything but I could hear everyone that came to see me! well to end my story I got to go home July 15th and I could see alittle bit but I was happy to go home. But I am almost 8 months old now and I made it through this surgery and back to my happy self.
