PATRICK
I am putting my son on this site to let all
parents know that is you feel something is not right, with the shape of your
child's head, even if your pediatrician says every things fine do something
about it to make sure surgery is or isn't needed. Surgery should be done the
earlier the better. My son Patrick was born November 3, 2002. He was coming
face up and when his heart rate was racing, the doctors decided to hurry and
get him out. They had to use the vacuum and after a few tries they decided to
use forceps. They were pulling on his head. When He came out the cord was
around his neck and he was as purple as a plum. He showed no motion or
movements. We all thought we lost him with such a brutal delivery. After the
emergency team struggled, he seemed okay and was sent to the N.I.C.U. for five
days. At his first well baby check up, I asked the pediatrician why his head
was still shaped abnormal. He said it was because of birth and should be fine.
The next 2 months I complained and the doctors said to massage it and it will okay. Finally when he was 4 months old and I complained about it again, he sent him for an x-ray, which came back normal. When I brought him back for his 5 month check up I said something is not right, because of the shape of his head and he had a huge vein going around it. We were sent to a Neurologist who took one look at him and said "Yep, that top suture is defiantly closed!" we ended up wasting a whole month waiting when his first cat scan was not formatted right. So after the second cat scan it was certain than Patrick needed surgery, and as soon as possible. We were lucky enough to get to go to Cedar Sinai, the celebrity hospital. There we met Dr. Daniel Pour who immediately felt Patrick's closed suture and asked why we didn't come here months ago. That's when I felt upset that after several complaints the pediatrician never did anything. Patrick had his surgery on May 12, 2003 at age 6 months. That was the scariest birthday I ever had. I was so afraid that he would swell so bad and would not understand why he couldn't' see. His surgery was suppose to last 5 hours and it was over in 3. After surgery he went to the P.I.C.U. and his whole body was swollen with the IV fluid. He looked so big, and he was out of it, due to the anesthesia and morphine. He had 2 blood transfusions. The second day he got to go to his own room and his left eye swelled shut. The third day the doctors kicked him out because he was way to active and made such a rapid recovery. We went home and he was happier than ever. Now he is doing great and his hair is growing over his scar. Although we are monitoring his fore head suture which may close as well, we are extremely satisfied that we chose surgery. If you have any questions please email me at preciousvayangel@yaho.com
