RILEY
Riley is our second child. Her brother Connor was just over two when she was born. Connor had many problems with his ears in his first year which resulted in him having to get tubes at 10 months. When Riley was born all we could hope for was that she wouldn't be plagued with the same ear problems as Connor. We did everything we were told. She slept in our room in her cradle and I never put her to sleep on her tummy. We had a device called a "Prop-A-Baby" in her bed to make sure she wouldn't roll onto her tummy. We noticed that she showed a preference to sleeping on her right side but didn't give it much thought. Both my husband and I have a certain position we are most comfortable sleeping in, so why wouldn't she? It wasn't until her 4 month check at the pediatrician that this was brought to our attention. We never looked at her from the top of her head - never thought to. After the doctor pointed it out, it was so noticeable. Her ears were totally misaligned. The forehead was pushed out and the right side of her head was completely flat. The guilt was overwhelming! Her doctor sent us to a Pediatric Neurosurgeon who gave us the “well you could wait and see or you could get the band” speech. Not knowing what to do, I asked him, "What would you do if this was your own child?" His response was, "get her banded." That's it. Decision made. To Cranial Tech we go. Riley is now in the her second band we have seen great improvement. I am so happy for the decisions we've made regarding this. Though emotions have run the gamut through this whole thing, I know that if this is the worst thing to happen to our little girl, we are blessed.
