Introduction - older child
I just found this board, and I was hoping to see more activity in hopes of getting some questions answered! Sadly it looks like there are not alot of people here. I will post my story anyway, maybe I can hear some good news! We first noticed the flat spot on my son's head at about 3 months. The doctor, at 6 months said he might need a helmet. At the time, the insurance wouldnt cover it, and she said we could wait and see if it corrected itself, and we had until 18 months to do something about it. At his 12 month appt she said she'd call the neurologist & get his opinion since it was not better. It took nearly 2 months for my ped to finally get the info to the neurologist, and them to get ahold of us for an appt. We had his appointment on Dec 28, and that is when we were told by the neur that the time to correct it was 6-12 months, and at this point there is a good chance the helmet won't do any good. (he was 14 months on the 5th) Needless to say we are pretty angry at our doc. I guess the literature all says you have until 18 months, but in reality it needs to be done sooner. We are going to try anyway, he was casted for the helmet, and it should be in some time next week. We are just hoping/praying it does SOME good. I'd rather try and have it do nothing than not try at all. I am wondering if anyone has had experience with trying to correct the problem when the child is closer to a year old? I can't find anything online on that. I know there must be others out there who have tried! Anyway, that is my story. Oh, my name is Sandy and my son's name is Drew.
