Learning Disablilty

My daughter is now 17 and she has had 5 surgeries the last one being at the age of 11.

My question to all is if any of you that have children in school have any issues of learing disabilities and have you been able to get the school to help.

I have had my daughter tested and she is borderline she is a slow at catching on to some subjects and others she picks up just fine. They had her classified as other disability but because she was passing all her classes they will not give her help anymore.

Has anyone come across a situation similar to this?

Mine are all still little, but I just wanted to say that I used to work in one of the local High Schools with the SPED department and then in a different department doing private tutoring to kids who needed the extra help (they were referred to me by their teachers). Since your daughter is borderline, but you still have concerns, maybe bring that up to her counselor and see if they can get her someone to tutor her everyday. Or maybe you were looking more for a diagnosis or something along that line? Sorry I can't be much help, but the counselor sounds like a good place to start.

yes, I have my son diagnosed with learning disabilities. I am still trying to get an IEP, but the school is providing a 504 plan and some accommodations. You have a right to request an independent Evaluation, to identify your child. Do that in writing and keep copies of everything. Check out wrightslaw.com
It has great info on Special Education, Rights and the Law.
Yes, Learning Disabilities are associated with Craniosynostosis.
Let me know if you need more help.

Blessings,
Sue

My son started kindergarten w/ an IEP and I still have to fight w/ the school constantly to get them what he needs I think it is a mater of not that the teachers don't care but hey are so stretched thin they can't do much more then they are.
