Unhappy

Its incredible that my daughter Gabriela is almost 6 months old. Her surgery was scheduled to be when she turned 8 mo. I was counting landmarks to that day.. summer.. Rosh Hashana.. Yom Kippur... fall... and it feels so close .. i just can't help myself feel horrible about this when I see her in her crib with all her pretty hair, thinking that it will be gone, and replaced by a huge scar. I have nightmares about sights and sounds of that day. I picture myself at the worst when they carry her away from us to the OR prep. I start to doubt whether its worth it, are we doing the right thing, what if we don't it, I guess the answers obviously aim at yes, but it still tear me apart deep inside.
Our surgery date is November 30th at Childrens Hosp of Philadelphia. Drs: Bartlett plastics, Dr Storm Neuro, for left unilateral cranio..

Your thoughts are sooo normal, necessary and reminiscent of my own. CJ, my son, has many other health issues, and had already been through one unrelated surgery, by the time his cranio surgery was scheduled. We had no choice in the matter as he had multiple sutures fused and known intercranial pressure. It was the scariest day of our life, but also a day that almost instantly made a sick baby a little healthier. My son had his surgery on May 12th. He was 5 1/2 mths on the day of his surgery and weighed just shy of 8lbs. Since that time his overall health and wellbeing has improved dramatically. We had a fabulous team of doctors in Boston that educated us thoroughly, from anesthesia to blood loss issues. If my little guy can get through this surgery and be a happy, babbling, playful 10 month old, ANY baby can. She is going to be better than ever!!! Give it time but I assure you she will. By the way, my CJ will turn 1 on November 30th! Please write with any questions.

Gabe (age 7) will be having his 4th CVR on 10/5/09 at the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital. Our neurosurgeon, Dr. Frim, will be doing the surgery solo this time.

This time they are planning on using titanium plates since our surgery in June did not net enough room even with use of the distractor.

Thanx for replying. I am glad that this ordeal is a hard mean to a happy end. How did you handle the social aspect of post surgery, did you take him out on the public, used hats... just bare his wound with pride??
How do you go about that??
Do people wonder and ask??

Kellen's surgery at Children's Mercy in Kansas City with Dr. Singhal on January 18th 2010. He was diagnosed mild metopic at 9 months and will be 16 months at time of surgery.

I need lots of support due to the fact that my husband went from dad/ husband of the year to completely absent when Kellen was only 3 months. He has been in and out of our lives for the past year. I've been doing it all alone. I also have a 3 1/2 year old daughter. I'm very anxious to be going through all this basically alone.

Jamie is scheduled for surgery on January 7, 2010. He will be 6 weeks old at the time of surgery. We have elected to have endoscopic cranio surgery for his sagittal craniosynostosis.

Surgery will be performed by Dr. Ann Ritter at Chippenham hospital in Richmond, Virginia.

This is Jamie's 1st (and hopefully only) surgery.

Zeeshaan is now scheduled for a CVR for sagittal synostosis on 2/24/2010 at The Children's Hospital of Montefiore, NY. Dr Goodrich and Dr Staffenberg will be doing the surgery.

He will be four months and 12 days old at the time of the surgery.

He was originally scheduled for Feb 8th but that got postponed due to a RSV infection.
