Our Craniofacial Program celebrates its 30th year in 2019 and is under the direction of Dr. Michael Friel. Our Craniofacial team is a multidisciplinary team consisting of a craniofacial surgeon, a pediatric neurosurgeon, a craniofacial pediatrician, pediatric otolaryngologists, geneticists, speech pathologists, pediatric dentists, orthodontists, a social worker, and a team coordinator. Our Team is located in the new Michael Boh Center for Child Development, a center dedicated to improving the lives of children with developmental disorders through comprehensive healthcare, research, and education.
Dr. Friel is a double-fellowship trained, triple-board certified craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgeon (American Board of Surgery, American Board of Plastic Surgery and American Board of Plastic Surgery Hand Subspecialty). He serves on the Board of Directors of the Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, and serves on the editorial board of Annals of Plastic Surgery, Microsurgery, and the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery. Dr. Friel brings contemporary reconstructive treatment options including minimally invasive surgery and distraction osteogenesis for patients with congenital and posttraumatic plastic surgery needs. A graduate of both Tulane University and Medical School, Dr. Friel is delighted to return to New Orleans.
