Kevin Kelly, M.D., DDS, received his dental surgery degree from Columbia University and his medical degree from State University of New York. He trained in plastic, craniofacial and microvascular surgery at Johns Hopkins Medical Center and at the Emergency Medical Service at the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services (Maryland Shock Trauma). Kelly also trained in oral and maxillofacial surgery and general surgery.
He received his board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Kelly has held leadership positions in numerous plastic surgery societies and served as president of the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons. In 2011, he served on a committee of experts sponsored by the Center for Disease Control to establish national standards for surgical treatment of children and adults with head, craniofacial, neck and facial abnormalities. Kelly founded the Craniofacial, Cleft Lip and Palate Program at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and served as the director for 29 years. He also led the Craniofacial, Cleft Lip and Palate team, which was certified by the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association.
Kelly has published multiple books and articles related to craniofacial, cleft lip and palate, and facial trauma surgery, and he is a member of the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Craniofacial-Cleft Palate Association, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the Southeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Tennessee Society of Plastic Surgeons, the J.B. Lynch Society and the American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons.
Kelly has performed more than 5,000 reconstruction surgeries for children with craniofacial deformities and more than 10,000 cleft lip and cleft palate procedures. He focuses on all aspects of plastic surgery, including craniofacial surgery, head and neck trauma, cleft lip and palate repair, congenital deformities, nasal surgery and ear reconstruction.
