Team Role: Neurosurgery Director for the Craniofacial Program; performs craniosynostosis surgery, Chiari malformation surgery, shunt surgery, spine surgery and other pediatric neurological procedures.
Chris Bonfield, M.D., received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed his residency in neurosurgery, a fellowship in complex spine surgery and subspecialty training in pediatric craniofacial surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He also completed a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship with pediatric spine at the University of British Columbia Children’s Hospital.
Bonfield’s clinical focus is on pediatric neurosurgery, including craniosynostosis, adult and pediatric spine surgery (including congenital malformations and scoliosis/deformity), sports medicine and international neurosurgery. He has a special interest in craniofacial surgery and advancing the subspecialty by learning new surgical techniques, as well as examining ways to evaluate and examine pre-op and post-op patients with craniosynostosis. This interest has led to numerous publications. He has performed neurosurgery in Africa and South America, and is active in global neurosurgery efforts.
