Dr. Mark Souweidane is an internationally renowned pediatric neurosurgeon with extensive experience in craniofacial surgery. He co-founded the Craniofacial Anomalies Program at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian and is one of the top neurosurgeons for craniosynostosis in the United States. Dr. Souweidane, who is widely published in peer-reviewed journals on many topics related to neurosurgical conditions in children, is a highly accomplished microneurosurgeon and expert endoscopic surgeon, and a compassionate advocate for children.
A pioneer in minimally invasive neurosurgical procedures, Dr. Souweidane is one of the leading neurosurgeons in endoscopic suturectomy for infants with craniosynostosis. He also has decades of experience in complex open surgery for children with multiple suture involvement or syndromic craniosynostosis and is well known for both his surgical skills and his empathy and warmth.
Dr. Souweidane received his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan before attending Wayne State University Medical School. His post-graduate residency included a general surgery internship at the University of Michigan Hospitals and a neurosurgery residency at New York University. He completed his training as chief clinical fellow in Pediatric Neurosurgery at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.
Over the past two decades, Dr. Souweidane has built the pediatric neurosurgery practice at Weill Cornell Medicine into one of the top services in the country. With the merger of the Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia programs, Dr. Souweidane now co-directs the largest pediatric neurosurgery service in New York, with hundreds of surgeries performed each year on young patients from around the world, at the #1 hospital in New York.
Dr. Souweidane is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition to NewYork-Presbyterian (where he holds appointments at both Weill Cornell and Columbia), Dr. Souweidane holds joint appointments at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Hospital for Special Surgery. He offers both in-person and video visits and is available for second opinions on request.
